April showers bring May flowers! A popular saying that holds true most years, which requires some creative thinking for indoor things to do during spring rains! If you are new to the Ottawa area, and not sure about where to find some interesting indoor entertainment, don’t worry, Ottawa has quite a large selection-including the highly acclaimed Canadian War Museum, which is currently featuring four band new photography exhibitions. They are:
- Eleven Women Facing War by Nick Danziger showcasing eleven stories of women from Afghanistan, Sierra Leone, Colombia, The Balkans, Israel and the Palestinian Territories.
- Kandahar-The Fighting Season by Louie Palu showcasing the heartfelt dedication and honor of Canadian soldiers deployed to Afghanistan from 2005-2011.
- The Princess of Wales’ Own Regiment: 150 Years of Service showcasing historical photographs and stories from 1885 all the way to the recent Afghanistan conflict.
- Ordinary People in Extraordinary Times showcasing 10 diverse portraits depicting moments from the first world war through to the Afghanistan conflict to movingly illustrate the human experience in wartime. Simply breathtaking.
The Canadian War Museum is located at 1 Vimy Place, on LeBreton Flats, at the corner of Booth Street and the Sir John A. MacDonald Parkway, west of Parliament Hill. The museum is easily accessible from downtown Ottawa by foot, bicycle, public transit, or by car and offers on-site parking.
