This Saturday, June 12,  2010 is the annual Barrhaven Run for Roger’s House event and we hope there is a fantastic turnout!

Barrhaven Roger’s House

The 3rd annual event supports Roger’s House and will be held at a new location, the Longfields-Davidson Heights Secondary School at 149 Berrigan Dr, Nepean, Ontario.

There will be 10K and 5K Runs as well as a 2.5 Family Walk and Tot Trot. Registration is open now, but you can also register or make donations the day of the event. All proceeds will be donated to Roger’s House.

What Is Roger’s House?

Located in the lovely Barrhaven area, Roger’s House is a support system and a “home away from home” for the children with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Many of the families spent the last few days of life together with the medical and emotional support from Roger’s House trained staff. The goal of Roger’s house is to help improve family life, relive stress for the parents, and offer days of unbelievable fun before heading back home for continued treatments or final goodbyes.

Truly, Roger’s House serves families in the greatest of need and gives them the tools, education, support, training and networking to face daily challenges. Roger’s House also offers bereavement and grief support for families that experience the passing of their child.

The Barrhaven Community

Started as a tribute to the famous Hockey Coach, Roger Neilson, who died after a long battle with two forms of cancer, Roger’s House works in collaboration with The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, the Ontario Ministries of Health and Children and Youth Services. The overwhelming support, volunteer work, donations, and contributions from the Ottawa neighborhood communities have made the dream of Roger’s House a reality.

If you happen to not enjoy running, even for an amazing cause, you can always make a donation to Roger’s House by going here: http://www.rogershouse.ca/en/donate/

Until next time,
