07 Sep Upcoming Fall Events in Ottawa
As the daylight becomes shorter, the leaves begin to change, and the cooler air sets in, that means it’s time to get revved up for one of the best seasons of the year! Thanksgiving and Halloween aside, fall is one of the best times of the year to get out and embrace the great city of Ottawa. Here are some upcoming fall events you can enjoy with family and friends:
World Cup of Hockey Pre-Tourney Game – Sept. 10
For the first time since 2004, the NHL and the NHL Players Association have joined forces to bring national hockey teams together from around the globe to compete in what is sure to be the second-most prestigious hockey tournament on the calendar next to the Olympics. This year eight teams will play for the Word Cup, and Ottawa has been selected as one of the pre-tournament destinations. So keep your eyes on the schedule so you don’t miss out on this ultimate hockey throw-down. Team Canada and Team USA will do battle at the Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday, September 10. For that hometown connection, root on Claude Giroux, who played junior hockey for the Gatineau Olympic and went to high school in Orleans. Logan Couture used to play for the Ottawa 67s and attended Hillcrest High School!
Haunted Walks – All Fall
What better way to get in the spirit of Halloween than by going on some spooky haunted walks? It’s one of the best ways to explore unknown gems of the city, learn a bit about the history of Ottawa, along with the people and places that haunt this city. The Original Haunted Walk is a spooky tour through the Bytown Museum and Chateau Laurier, among other landmarks, but everyone’s talking about the Ghosts and Gallows tour of the Ottawa Jail Hostel. Get ready for some cold chills.
The Carp Fair – September 22
Yes, it’s almost time for the “Best Little Fair in Canada!” Bring out the family to enjoy the agricultural side of Ottawa at the Carp Fair. Countryside games, Ferris wheels, entertainment and shows – it’s the perfect way to take a step away from those busy city streets and embrace some good old-fashioned fun.
Oktoberfest Ottawa – Early October
If theme parks or hockey isn’t your thing, then surely Oktoberfest must fit the bill. There are a bunch of Oktoberfest events, like Oktoberfest Ottawa in Barrhaven, Beau’s Oktoberfest in Vankleek Hill, Oktoberfest in the ByWard Market etc. These events have become major fall heritage festivals, embracing and celebrating the great history of this province and German heritage. Keg tapping, local performers, artisans and great food – there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Senators Home Opener – October 12
This October 12, grab your jersey and your war-paint and head down to watch the electrifying home opener as Captain Erik Karlsson’s Ottawa Senators clash against the rival Toronto Maple Leafs. If you can wait for, Daniel Alfredsson’s #11 will be raised to the rafters on December 29 in a game against the Detroit Red Wings.
So get those fall sweaters ready for some epic upcoming events. It may be the wind-down of summer, but it’s certainly not the wind-down of fun in the city of Ottawa.
From everyone at The Geoff & Bobbie Team, Remax Realtors Ottawa, we wish you and your family a warm, memorable fall!
