ABOUT RIDEAU

The historic township of Rideau, located in eastern Ontario, Canada offers home buyers the ultimate rural, laidback setting. Rideau Township was created in 1974 after the amalgamation of two other townships: Marlborough, and North Gower. In 2001 Rideau Township was amalgamated into the City of Ottawa. Stretching through the southern section of Ottawa, the Rideau Canal spans 202 kilometres (125 miles) and includes the sections of the Rideau and Cataraqui rivers, as well as several pristine lakes, including the Lower, Upper and Big Rideau lakes. The man-made portion of the canal spans about 19 kilometres (12 miles), and the Rideau Canal traverses through the cities and communities of Ottawa, Smiths Falls, Merrickville, Westport, Battersea and Kingston.
