02 Mar Ottawa Sees Increase in New Home Sales
Here’s a new headline that’s sure to make home sellers in the area pleased: “Ottawa is seeing an increase in new home sales lately.”
Evidently, according to a recent report, the local housing market saw an increase in new home sales during the month of December.
Continue reading to learn more about what this recent report revealed and how it may benefit you as a home seller.
An Overview of the Local Housing Market in Ottawa
Here’s what the recent housing report found:
- There were 217 sales in December, up 6.9 per cent over the 202 sold in December 2013.
Thus, sales for the year 2014 were up to 3,851, just 4.3-per-cent off the 4,024 sold in 2013.
Still, when taken as a 10-year average, sales are still off significantly, down by more than 1,000 homes sold for the year.
Freehold townhomes were a popular choice on the market, jumping from 34 per cent of the market in December 2013 to 47 per cent in December 2014.
That trend coincides with a decrease in sales in the central part of the city by almost half. In numbers, it dropped from 26 per cent in December 2013 to 12 per cent of the market in December 2014.
It should also be noted that the west and south ends picked up most of that market share.
