Located west of Ottawa, Nepean (pronounced “ne-PEE-yin”) is conveniently located approximately 10 -15 minutes from the Ottawa downtown area. Designated as the Nepean Township in 1792, this Ottawa-Carleton County community was named after Sir Evan Nepean, British Under Secretary of State for the Home Department. Incorporated as a city in 1978, the region has recently experienced rapid growth. Today, much of the newer commercial development includes numerous shopping districts that enhance the livability for residents. Nearby shopping venues include the Bayshore Mall, College Square, Meadowlands and Merivale.
With just over 150,000 citizens, this neighbourhood derives much of it economic power from the abundant federal government offices in the area. While not nearly as large of a technology player as the neighbouring community of Kanata, Nepean does have a few tech-centric heavyweights that call the area home including Nortel Networks, JDS Uniphase and Gandalf Technologies.
Within the NCC (National Capital Commission) Greenbelt, you and your family will find abundant open green space as well as awesome recreational opportunities. Here you can get in a round of golf at two local golf courses, practice your swing at a nearby driving range, enjoy your boat at one of three area marinas, go horseback riding at the local equestrian park, enjoy a toboggan hill, or hit one of two beaches along the Ottawa River. Even more, activities can be enjoyed by going for a hike, taking a spin on your bike or getting back to nature on one of our many park paths or cross country skiing trails found throughout the community. We recommend the Pinhey Forest and Stoney Swamp parks for the ultimate in cross-country skiing.
