Part 2: Ottawa Events to Watch in 2014

Last time, we started telling you about the news events of 2014 that you’ll want to keep an eye on in Ottawa. Today, we’re going to round out that list with the final four news events you’ll want to track in 2014.

Ottawa Current Events

New Sports Teams in Ottawa. For instance, the RedBalcks will begin play this year, with Kevin Glenn as the starting quarterback. Ottawa will also welcome a higher level of soccer when the Ottawa Fury join the North American Soccer League. And the Ottawa 67’s will return to the Ottawa Civic Centre this year as well. It truly is a great time to be a sports fan!

Construction in the City. There are plenty of construction projects to monitor in the city, from the Strandherd-Armstrong Bridge to the Airport Parkway Bridge. Plus, keep an eye on light-rail and other transportation projects through the Ottawa on the Move Initiative.

Landsdowne Park. Considered one of the most-contested construction projects in the city, Landsdowne Park will open in the spring of 2014 with sporting events. Meanwhile, other sections of the park will continue to be worked on. There are a lot of unanswered questions about this project, including how it will affect traffic and more.

Municipal Election. There will be a lot of candidates to consider leading up to the Oct. 27, 2014 vote and depending on who winds, it could change the way the city moves forward. There are also a number of high-profile campaigns already. For instance, Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson has said this campaign will be his last in politics. What will happen next?
