Winter Staging Tips

Many homeowners think that the spring and summer time offer much more opportunity for finding buyers when it comes to placing your home up for sale. But the reality is that less competition isn’t always a bad thing. Plus, certain circumstances that often influence a move – new job, commute, expanding family or downsizing – are sometimes factors that we don’t always have control over. So the year-round need will always be there.
When it comes to staging your home for a winter sale, you can take advantage of the season by incorporating these handy tips to make your home stand out.
Keep the Exterior Clean and Tidy
Sure, there may be snow and ice and even slush surrounding the exterior of your home. But you just have to make the most of it and use the winter and holiday season to your advantage. That means placing a few decorative potted urns near your entranceway, or stringing some lights to highlight your doorway.
Always keep your pathway shovelled and salted and try to maintain any shrubbery that might need pruning. Keep it tidy and clean, and light up your home with some decorative features for the holidays.
Make Your Interior Warm and Cozy
Potential buyers are always on the search for a place that makes them feel warm and cozy – somewhere they can envision themselves and their family calling home. So set the stage by creating that perfect, cozy ambiance. You can do this by lighting the fire when viewings are scheduled and lighting some candles around your home. Keep those seasonal decorations up, but make sure that they aren’t too overbearing. A few simple additions can make all the difference.
It also helps to make your home smell great so that when buyers walk in they are greeted by a cozy décor and delicious fragrance. Try mixing some cinnamon sticks, orange peel, and allspice together in some water and have it lightly simmer on the stove. This will infuse your entire home with delightful aromas.
Protect Your Floors
Remember that this time of the year can bring along some messy footwear. Protect your flooring by using a mat in the entranceway, as well as a runner or two for the hallway just in case a few of those boots land past the entranceway.
The winter is a great time for selling and staging your home. There’s less competition and you can take advantage of the holiday season by making your home dazzle. So set the perfect stage in your home with some of these simple tactics.
