Contrary to popular belief, Oktoberfest is much more than just beer stines and lederhosen. It’s a cultural celebration that features delicious Bavarian-inspired food, live music, and traditional fun for the whole family. This year, kick off your Oktoberfest festivities on the weekend of September 21st by heading down to Vankleek Hill for Beau’s Octoberfest. Your kids will get a kick out of watching all the fun activities like the Sausage Eating Contest, Keg Toss, and much more. Canadian pop legends Sloan (as well as other local talent) will also be taking to the stage this year.
Back for another year is the award-winning Pumpkinferno. From September 28th to October 28th, you can head down to the Upper Canada Village to check out over 7,000 hand-carved pumpkins lit up against the picturesque 19th-century backdrop. It’s a site not to be missed! Open Thursday to Sunday.
Come the end of September, Gatineau Park turns into a stunning backdrop of fall colours. And from September 29th to October 21st, you can jump on the “Fall Rhapsody Free Shuttle” bus and head out to the Pink Lake, King Mountain, Champlain Lookout, and Camp Fortune to experience all the magnificent sites and views that autumn has to offer. Take a hike, enjoy a picnic, or just breathe in the fresh autumn air. It’s a great way to spend a weekend afternoon with the whole family.
Magic of Lights
If you’re looking for a magical holiday experience that the whole family will enjoy, the Magic of Lights is sure to delight. As soon as November 16th rolls around, pack up the kids, jump in the car and get ready to see a light show that spans over two full kilometres. Each year, Wesley Clover Parks and Campgrounds transforms into a light show designed to be experienced right from inside your warm and cozy car. This drive-through light display features the enchanting tunnel of lights, holiday characters, and also incredible animation effects that will get you in the holiday spirit. So make sure you check it out before it closes on January 5th for the season.
