  • Housing starts in the Ottawa Census Metropolitan Area were trending at 5,984 units in January, compared to 6,256 units in December.
  • The trend is a six-month moving average of the monthly seasonally adjusted annual rates of housing starts.
  • In Ottawa, the monthly SAAR measure was 2,837 in January down from 6,858 in December.
  • In January, about 26 per cent of starts occurred in Nepean outside the greenbelt and about 20 per cent in Kanata.

This information suggests that the market truly is gaining in strength and that there is plenty to look forward to ahead of the spring home buying season.
