The Canadian Film Institute is pleased to present the 9th Israeli Film Festival, celebrating the best of contemporary Israeli cinema. Presented in collaboration with the Embassy of Israel and the Israeli Cultural Forum (Vered Israel Cultural and Educational Program, and Jewish Community Council of Ottawa/Vaad Ha’ir, Canada Israel Cultural Foundation). All films are Ottawa Area premieres!

Ottawa Area Things To Do

The Festival opens with Mabul (The Flood), a film about a physically underdeveloped boy, Yoni, who is desperate to grow up before his Bar Mitzvah. While facing the constant taunting of bullies at school, his home life is no less challenging as he deals with his parents disintegrating marriage and the return of home of his older, autistic brother. These events lead Yoni’s life in surprising and revealing directions.

Ottawa Entertainment

Closing out this year’s Festival on June 14th at 9:00pm is Dolphin Boy, an extraordinary documentary, highlighting the healing powers of nature and love. Morad, a well-liked young boy, is badly beaten in a case of mistaken identity. Following the beating, he becomes withdrawn, not responding to any kind of treatment. Morad’s father takes him to a seaside town, where he eventually develops an exceptional relationship with dolphins, which leads to him speaking again and down a new path in life.
