5 Ways to Prepare for Sending Your Kids Back to School

Back to school time can always feel quite chaotic for everyone involved. Picking up new supplies, organizing lunches, planning the schedule around extra-curricular activities, and getting yourself sorted for work in the process is a lot to juggle. To help make that transition easy and as hassle-free as possible, here are some helpful ways to prepare for sending your kids back to school.

Establish a Normal Routine

Routine is the secret ingredient to keeping everything organized and rolling as it should. After the summer holidays and late-night barbeques with family, this is often the toughest part of getting the kids ready for school. To keep things simple and tantrum-free, start to establish those regular routines gradually before the first school day arrives. This way, your kids will be already well-adjusted to their normal schedule and sleep patterns.

Meal Prep for Lunches

Leaving lunch prep to the morning can be time-consuming and hectic when there’s so much going on. Instead of adding more stress to your plate, try to create a plan so you know exactly what to make the night before, with everything on hand that you need. This will make the mornings so much easier with one less thing to worry about.

Reduce Screen Time

With homework and bedtime being major priorities now, it’s also a good idea to start to ween your kids off of their screen time. Establishing a schedule for screen time is important during the school year so kids can focus on their homework, get to bed on time, and be well-rested for the next day.

Pick Up Supplies

There’s always a bunch of items that the kids need for the new school year. Take advantage of the back to school sales by carving out time early to pick up what’s needed so the kids are fully stocked and have everything ready for class.

Get Them Familiar with the School Again

If you’ve recently moved into a new neighborhood or if your children are going to a new school, take the time to show them the school before classes begin. This is a great way to help familiarize them with the area and minimize any nerves on the first day.
