5 Signs You Need a Bigger Home

Last updated on May 11th, 2021 at 12:59 pm

There are many reasons why you might need to move. Perhaps you are moving to a different city, starting a new job, or your child is enrolled at a specialized school like Canterbury High School. Sometimes life changes like marriage or divorce necessitate moving, and sometimes you want a change of pace like moving from a quiet town like Kemptville to downtown Ottawa (or the opposite!) However one of the most common reasons we see for buying a new home and moving is the need for a bigger home. With that in mind, here are five obvious signs that you need a bigger home:

You have no privacy

Sure, you love your family, but everywhere you turn—there they are. Go into the kitchen to make dinner—and they’re there. Go to the living room—there. The hallway—there. The bathroom…well, it might just be time to find a bigger home.

You feel more and more cramped

In addition, if you find that you just don’t have enough space to move about your home freely—that is, without constantly banging into this and tripping over that—then it might be time to consider a bigger home. If your queen-sized bed touches all four walls in your master bedroom…time to start the house hunt.

You feel ready to move on

Sometimes you live in a home that has nothing wrong at all with it, but you’re ready to move on to bigger and better things. Maybe you got a promotion at work, maybe you received an inheritance, but whatever it is the time has come to make a change.

You own pets

You’ve got to love pets. They give so much love—or so they say, anyway. If you own large pets, however, such as larger breeds of dogs, then you may find keeping them cooped up in a tiny home a bad idea for everyone involved. The dog is liable to be bursting with energy and thus irritated at such a small space of confinement, causing it to act out and thereby frustrate you, to say nothing of your neighbours. The same goes for those who love to have a ton of cats—the smaller the space, the greater the chaos.

You have a baby on the way

Babies—shock of shocks—require a lot of effort and money. Factored into both of those is the element of space, which might be lacking in a smaller room. First-time parents, trust us—you’ll want that baby to have its own room. It may not give you that much more sleep, but this is still one of the big reasons to look for a bigger home.
