With more restrictions lifting and parks and businesses reopening their doors, there are ample ways for you and the kids to get out and explore the city and the surrounding areas safely this summer. If you’ve been looking for a fun family day trips to take from Ottawa, here are 5 of our favourite ones.

Parc Omega

Less than an hour outside of the city lies the biggest wildlife park in the region. Discover all of Canada’s favourite animals including moose, bison, bears, and wolves. Parc Omega offers a 12km self-driving safari. Plus, there’s hiking trails, picnic areas, and overnight accommodation if you wish to stay even longer. To ensure the safety of all visitors in the park, the Parc Omega staff is controlling the number of admissions permitted each day. To get access to the park simply head to their website and reserve and buy your tickets online. Remember to bring your mask and a minimum distance of six feet from the other visitors when outside your vehicle. 

Parc du Lac-Beauchamp

If you’re looking for the best spot to take the kids on a picnic, Parc du Lac-Beauchamp is the place to go. Located only 20 minutes outside of the city, this beach area has lots of green space to put down your blanket, set up a grill, and spend the afternoon playing in the sun. 


Gananoque is one of the most beautiful places in all of Ontario. Considered the entranceway to the 1000 Islands, this area is the perfect location to launch the boat, go kayaking, snorkelling, fishing or take one of the many tours that are now open. Best of all, it’s a short drive from the city, making it one of the best day-tripping spots to check out this summer.

Mont Tremblant

Located only two hours away, Mont Tremblant offers families a wide range of exciting activities. With over 11 hiking trails that bring you to some of the most breathtaking views, a day here is well worth it. Although some of the activities still remain closed, you can rent water equipment and go boating, paddling or simply spend the day at the nearby beach.

Eco Odyssee

Just 30 minutes from Ottawa you’ll find the quaint, picturesque village of Wakefield, Quebec that offers some pretty cool family experiences like Eco Odyssee park. Here you can explore unique adventures like the walking maze and surrounding nature trails. There’s even a water maze that you can discover by paddleboat, paddleboard or canoe. There’s no minimum age for any of the activities and infants as young as 6 months can be carried by an adult, so it’s a great spot for the whole family to get out and enjoy nature together.
