4 Ways to Stay Active While at Home
It can be challenging to stay active and healthy while stuck at home due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak. While some may find themselves spending a lot more time on the couch, it is recommended to have approximately 150 – 175 minutes of physical activity per week in order to maintain proper fitness. There are several free and easy to follow online classes to take advantage of at home. Many gyms and yoga studios have also offered their online classes for anyone to participate. This is a great option for those who prefer to follow a schedule and need others for motivation. These classes are being held on platforms such as Youtube, Instagram and Zoom. Many local gyms and personal trainers are also offering online classes by donation. This is a great way to support your community, make new friends, and feel socially connected, all while working out from the comfort of your own home!
Go for Walks or Runs
If online classes aren’t your thing, no worries! Sometimes an activity as simple as a walk or light jog can have the biggest impact. While staying home as much as possible is recommended, going for a run or walk in your neighbourhood has great potential to elevate your health during these hectic times. Sometimes fresh air and a bit of physical activity are all you need to feel refreshed.
Work at a Standing Desk
If you’re currently working remotely, building your own standing desk is a great, simple way to stay active and burn more calories! And if you aren’t working, if you find yourself sitting often, make an effort to stand while doing simple tasks such as talking on the phone or reading a book.
